About The Company

The Genesis of Glocalized Education

Founded in 2013, Lalaland Education Co., Ltd., through its flagship Yokosuka Bilingual School (YBS), has pioneered a transformative educational model in Japan. Situated in the multicultural heart of Yokosuka, the institution was born from CEO Fumi Inoue's vision to bridge the cultural gap between local Japanese residents and international families. YBS serves as a vital educational hub, offering nursery, preschool, and elementary programs that harmonize Japanese values with a global perspective.

Mission: Diversity FOR EARTH

The school's core mission, "Diversity FOR EARTH," aims to create a nurturing environment where diversity is embraced to make the world a better place. By fostering "Global Citizens with a Japanese Heart," YBS equips students with the linguistic fluency and cultural empathy needed to navigate an increasingly interconnected world. The dual-immersion program ensures students become literate in both Japanese and English, using an inquiry-based curriculum that emphasizes critical thinking and creative expression.

Key Achievements and Impact

  • Strategic Expansion: The school is set to launch its Middle School division in September 2025 and high school division in 2026, expanding its world-class bilingual education to older learners.
  • Curricular Excellence: Implementation of the internationally recognized Cambridge curriculum, preparing students for high-level academic success and global leadership.
  • Community Integration: Bridging language barriers and academic oppertunities for foreign families in Japan, ensuring that international roots are seen as a strength rather than a hurdle to education.
  • Professional Growth: Developing a diverse team of over 50 educators who provide a safe, heartwarming, and stimulating learning environment.
Our dream is to bridge the cultural gap and create international friendships between Americans and Japanese living in Yokosuka. We want to bring these two groups together in a positive and happy learning environment to build a close-knit community.

A Vision for a Borderless Future

Yokosuka Bilingual School continues to push the boundaries of traditional education, aiming to create a "Global Town" where differences are celebrated. With a focus on sustainable social impact, the organization is dedicated to nurturing a generation of leaders who will "Make a Difference, Make a Future," contributing to a more inclusive and harmonious global society.

Strategic Partnership with Kanagawa Dental University

YBS has established a formal partnership with Kanagawa Dental University to pioneer a new model of integrated education. This collaboration focuses on:

  • Developing Medical Professionals: Cultivating the next generation of healthcare providers equipped to support Japan’s regional communities.
  • STEAM Professional Development: Providing students with university-level, hands-on learning experiences designed to foster "STEAM Professionals."
  • Global Leadership: Equipping children with the skills and mindset necessary to excel on the international stage through high-quality, academic-driven curricula.

Empowering the Community: The Early Childhood Foundation

Following the success of YBS, the group expanded its mission by establishing seven licensed nurseries across Yokohama City. These facilities serve as the foundation for the group’s educational philosophy, practicing a unique brand of childcare where:

  • Bilingualism is Natural: Children navigate daily life in both English and Japanese.
  • Identity and Diversity Flourish: International and local Japanese children grow together in an environment that honors their authentic selves.
  • Global Heart: The curriculum emphasizes "Global Mindedness," teaching children to engage with others with an open heart and a deep respect for diversity.

The Social Good Impact

By bridging the gap between early childhood education and higher academic institutions, YBS and its group companies are not just teaching subjects; they are building a sustainable ecosystem for Social Good. They are nurturing compassionate, highly-skilled citizens who are as rooted in their local communities as they are prepared for the global world.

Through initiatives like taking on the challenge of the Asian Science and Mathematics Olympiad for Primary Schools (ASMOPS), we are actively pushing beyond the borders of Japan to embrace Asian Diversity.

Japan still faces challenges as a relatively closed society, with cultural norms and customs that aren't always open to difference. My mission is to ensure that graduates of Yokosuka Bilingual School (YBS) can break down these walls and navigate the world without boundaries. To raise children who can truly "fly" across borders, I continue to expand the business, forge new partnerships, and take on every challenge that comes our way.

About The Leadership

Fumi Inoue is the visionary Founder and CEO of Lalaland Education, Co. Ltd. and Yokosuka Bilingual School. Her career started with Japanese educational field and possessing over 13 years of experience in educational leadership, she is a recognized practitioner of bilingual and "mixed" education. Inoue was inspired to create YBS after witnessing the challenges international families faced in the local school system. She encourages students to be exposed to different cultures, Japanese and global academic opportunities, and the students can be inspired to find their way. Her leadership is defined by a deep belief in the power of diversity and a commitment to ensuring that every child can "Make a Difference" regardless of their background or language barriers. Be open-minded, and flexible to differences. YBS encourages people around to be themselves no matter where they are with open-minded, academic excellence.

Fumi Inoue’s leadership is driven by a courageous spirit that embraces the unfamiliar. Rather than fearing differences, she champions the idea of "mixing" diverse elements and integrating the best practices from around the world without being confined to a single ideology. At YBS, she has curated a global tapestry of educational excellence, ensuring that students develop a comprehensive and inclusive perspective that allows them to engage deeply with Asia and the wider world.

While many international programs focus solely on preparing students for paths abroad, Inoue is equally passionate about empowering students to integrate into Japanese society. She actively works to expand academic opportunities within Japan for international students, fostering an environment where local higher education is a viable and attractive path. By building these bridges, she ensures that children do not have to choose between their global identity and their local community, but can instead thrive at the intersection of both.
