Brief Description:
Brightway International School (BIS), originally Gateway International School, commenced its operations on January 8th, 2017. The name change was officially approved and registered with the Ministry of Education (MOE) in Maldives on 7th November 2018.
The school sits in the building of former Fareedhiyaa School in Hulhumale, Maldives which was established in 2007 under the Ministry of Education (MOE) Maldives. The decision to pass the running of the school to a private partner in 2017 was to ensure that investments by the private partner centered on improving student learning outcomes through innovative teaching methods, technology and facility improvements. Qualitat Education Pvt Ltd (QEPL), the holding company of Brightway International School, was awarded the contract by the Ministry of Education, Maldives.
QEPL works with an affiliate partner Irshyad Trust Ltd (ITL) in the management of all education aspects of Brightway International School and to assist in establishing a “Singapore Model School” with British curriculum. ITL owns and operates a chain of international schools in Singapore and other countries and has over 70 years of experience in imparting education and training with over 12 years in the management of international schools.
ITL’s history and structure bring educational stability and strong management to QEPL. Working closely with the ITL’s team, QEPL endeavours to be structured and focused on maximizing QEPL’s Vision and Mission as well as the group’s position. It is the intent of ITL advisory team that the education group continues to grow locally and internationally, organically within and via acquisitions, joint ventures and other affiliations and collaborations. Over the past year, the main activity at QEPL has been to streamline the company culture, and study how current resources can best be utilized so that QEPL can be the ‘Singapore’ arm of ITL in Maldives.
BIS has also completed the process of designing and releasing the collateral and curriculum design for achieving the Singapore curriculum model in the Maldives for the foundation years. We believe a strong early foundation in English, Math and Science will equip the students from primary to secondary to tackle the IGCSE curriculum.

brightway.edu.mvMr Moosa Rasheed’s leadership is not simply the story of building a school - it is the story of a vision carried with heart, purpose, and an unwavering belief in people. As the Founder and Managing Director of Brightway International School, he has guided the institution onto a global platform where its standards, values, and achievements now stand confidently alongside some of the most respected education systems in the world.
His journey in education began in 2002, when he entered the government school system in the Maldives as an educator. From the very beginning, he carried a quiet dedication to students and learning, working with sincerity and purpose. His leadership qualities soon became evident, and in 2008 he was appointed as a Principal. In this role, he focused on strengthening school management, improving academic outcomes, and building student-centered learning environments where children were truly at the heart of education. These formative years shaped his philosophy - one rooted in care, discipline, and an enduring belief in human potential.
In 2011, he broadened his experience by stepping into the international hospitality industry, where he worked with organizations such as HPL Hotels Singapore, Cantata Hotels Group, and later served as a General Manager at Sun Siyam Hotels. This chapter refined his understanding of service excellence, people management, and leadership in diverse, multicultural environments. Yet even in a different industry, his natural ability to lead with empathy and integrity remained constant.
In 2019, driven by a deep calling to transform education, he returned to the field and founded Brightway International School, a Singapore-model institution aligned with globally recognized frameworks such as SEAB and the IGCSE curriculum. This was not just the founding of a school, but the beginning of a dream - to prepare Maldivian students to confidently stand on the global stage.
At the heart of this vision lies a powerful mission: To be the first choice in education. This mission is not a slogan, but a living commitment that shapes every decision, every opportunity, and every standard within the school.
What makes his leadership truly special is that the core values of Brightway - people-centeredness, God-consciousness, and an excellence-driven mindset - are the same values he lives by. They are not written ideals, but deeply personal beliefs reflected in how he leads, how he listens, and how he uplifts others.
Above all, he is a man with a heart. His leadership is marked by genuine warmth and humanity. His hospitality goes beyond words; every staff member is welcomed with open arms, treated with dignity, and made to feel part of a family. There is a deep sense of belonging that he creates naturally, where people feel valued, respected, and supported.
This care extends into how he develops his team. Staff are nurtured, recognised, and promoted based on their quality, dedication, and strengths, creating a culture where individuals grow according to their potential and contribution.
His compassion also reaches beyond the school through a scholarship initiative that supports two deserving Maldivian students from each grade level, from Grade 1 to Grade 10, opening doors of opportunity and hope for many families.
His God-conscious outlook shapes a culture of integrity, humility, compassion, and responsibility, while his excellence-driven mindset ensures that students are always encouraged to reach their highest potential.
Academically, Brightway students consistently excel in iPSLE and IGCSE examinations, reflecting strong discipline, preparation, and global readiness. Beyond academics, students are given meaningful opportunities to participate in international competitions such as SASMO, VANDA, and the World Scholar’s Cup (WSC) every year, where they engage with peers from around the world, build confidence, and develop critical thinking on a global stage.
Sports and co-curricular activities are equally encouraged, ensuring holistic development of mind, body, and character. The best facilities are provided because students are truly at the heart of education, and every investment is made with the belief that a safe, inspiring environment allows them to flourish.
A defining principle of his leadership is his belief that students learn best through exposure. Guided by this belief, opportunities are intentionally created for them to experience learning beyond the classroom - through competitions, international events, and real-world academic platforms. Whether locally or abroad, these experiences allow students to grow in confidence, adaptability, and global awareness, shaping them into learners who are prepared for a changing world.
His commitment to teachers is equally strong. Every year, expert trainers are brought in to enhance professional practice, and teachers are given opportunities to accompany students to international competitions, gaining exposure and insights that strengthen classroom learning.
This commitment has been recognised by one of the most respected education expert Dr. Charles Chew, Principal Consultant at Marshall Cavendish Education and former Head of Science, who described Moosa Rasheed as “A man with a vision on a mission” - a reflection of both his clarity of purpose and his relentless drive to make a difference.
In every sense, Mr Moosa Rasheed is more than an educational leader. He is a builder of people, a nurturer of dreams, and a quiet yet powerful force of inspiration. His leadership is not only seen in the success of an institution, but felt in the lives he has touched, the opportunities he has created, and the hearts he has uplifted.
Through his vision, his presence, and his heart, he continues to shape a generation of learners who are confident, compassionate, and ready to embrace the world.
